Experts involved in local, state and federal efforts to fight environmental crimes will share their knowledge with law enforcement, public officials, community leaders and public defenders at a free workshop sponsored by Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB), a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The workshop will take place in Port Clinton on May 3.
Communities are increasingly grappling with the effects of environmental crimes. “The source of most litter in our 3-county District of Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca County is personal litter and / or illegal dumping of garbage. We have litter crews, Adopt-A-Road groups and a number of beach and park cleanups every year, but we are continually striving to stop this growing problem at the source. Through education and awareness of our valuable natural resources we hope to send a positive message about the importance of recycling and litter prevention in our area,” said Amy Drummer, Assistant Director of the OSS Solid Waste District.
Attendees will learn about enforcing laws governing these crimes and other topics, including:
- Enforcing environmental laws
- Meth lab training
- Environmental enforcement
- Scrap metal
- How to form a local environmental coalition
- Community policing best management practices
The workshop will be held Friday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency, Ottawa County Courthouse, 315 Madison Street, Port Clinton.
